As a growing number of pupils in our school have a diagnosis of Autism or attachment disorders we have been working towards the ASD accreditation to provide the best outcomes for our pupils.
Although the accreditation will take some time we are pleased to see the culture change in school, becoming a more ASD friendly environment and improvements in academic and social progress across the school.
The ASD/ASC accreditation was established by The National Autistic Society (NAS) and its affiliated local societies, with support from the Department of Health, Autism Accreditation has been the foundation upon which much of the successful expansion of quality services for people with autism has been built.
In order to achieve accreditation against Autism Accreditation standards, we must provide evidence that:
•We have a specialised knowledge and understanding of autism
•The knowledge and understanding of autism consistently informs the organisation, the resources and management of the organisation
•The knowledge and understanding of autism consistently informs the assessment and support plan for people who use the service
•The knowledge and understanding of autism consistently informs all aspects of practice.
This evidence is evaluated using autism-specific criteria, which are applied to each area of the organisation reviewed
